Our latest report, Assorted Ambition, presents the results of our second annual survey of LSE undergraduates. The research measures some key aspects of students' career aspirations, including sector interest, motivation and levels of confidence, with some surprising trends.

Highlights:

  • Government, policy and the civil service are the most popular career sectors
  • The majority of students favour 'pursuing a personal interest' to 'salary' or 'prestige'
  • There is a disparity between motivations of international and UK students

Read 2014's report, Alternative Aspirations, presenting the results of our first survey of LSE undergraduates. Widely praised for its interesting, informative and relevant results, the research found a number of unexpected trends among students' career aspirations.

Highlights:

  • Just 10% of students aspire to roles in investment banks
  • Students are more interested in working in the public sector, academia, or for an NGO than in investment banking, consulting or finance
  • The vast majority of students are not motivated by salary
